I enjoyed all the clubs that I tested this week, but if I was to choose one stand-out club it would have to be the Adams Golf XTD 3-wood. It really was probably the best 3-wood I have tested for a long time. It wasn’t so much distance – although the XTD had plenty of that – but it was the feel and consistency that it produced.

The low-profile design of the head inspires confidence from both the tee and fairway and the Matrix Ozik Red Tie 7Q3 shaft delivered every time, if there was a shaft that truly complemented a club head from standard stock then the lads at Adams R&D have found a true match, and with the cut-thru slot system it really is an amazing club.

Technology

The first thing you will notice is the low-profile design of the head of the XTD Ti giving it a very low centre of gravity which helps give it that consistent strike. Getting the ball airborne, it also helps give you added control of the ball flight.

Adams state in their tech specs that the new cut-thru slot design produced so much clubface speed they had to slow it down. I am not sure about that, but the club-head, cut-thru slots and shaft combination produce plenty of club-head speed which obviously equates to clocking up some great yardages.

Add that to the progressive face thickness – a first for Adams golf in their fairway woods – and you get plenty of forgiveness. Adams state 29% more speed on off-centre strikes compared to their last 3-wood.

Conclusion

As I said earlier I really enjoyed playing with the Adams XTD 3-wood, not just from the tee, but found the strike, feel and consistency from the fairway one of the best 3-woods I have played with. I can’t give you a more higher recommendation than that. If you are in the market for a new 3-wood, I would definitely make sure you put this on your testing list. You’ll be glad you did.
