It's the European Tour's flagship event this week at the stunning Harry Colt West course on the Wentworth Estate, not many people know that Colt also designed the East Course, which is a course I really enjoy playing. Ernie Els made some changes to the West course between 2005 – 2010, which were not received with universal appraisal.

The clubhouse was originally known as Wentworth house in the 19th century and was the home to the brother-in-law of the Duke of Wellington, it was then sold to a Spanish exile by the name of Count Ramon Cabrera in 1850. After his death his wife purchased some of the surrounding land to form what become known as the Wentworth Estate.

In 1912 builder WG Tarrant acquired the developing rights for the Estate and based on his St Georges Hill model commissioned Harry Colt to design a course around the Wentworth house. Tarrant then developed the large houses that you see on the estate today. And in an echo of today’s financial climate, development of Wentworth Estate ground to a halt due to the Depression of the late 1920s.

In 1931 the banks asked for repayment of a large debenture that had been taken out, Surprise Surprise Tarrant was forced to declare bankruptcy. The ownership of Wentworth Estates Ltd came under the control of Sir Lindsay Parkinson & Co Ltd.

I am on a press trip to Catalonia this week so sorry about the lack of information on some players.

My tips to win:

Rory McIlroy 11/4 – with Sporting Bet
Record at Wentworth: win and 1 Top 25 and 1 Top 5

Luke Donald 33/1 – with Coral
Record at Wentworth: 2 wins 3 Top 5s 1 Top 10 since 2007

Shane Lowry 45/1 – with Coral
Record at Wentworth: Runner-up 2014 only been outside the Top 12 once in last four years

My each-way tips:

Emiliano Grillo 50/1 – with Ladbrokes

Thomas Aiken 70/1 – with BetFred

Record at Wentworth: 7th 2014, 17th 2010, 10th 09

My outside tips:

There are three great outside tips this week and I haven't had time to decide which one to go with, so I will leave that to you.

Eddie Pepperell 125/1 with BetVictor

Record at Wentworth: played twice and two Top 25s, 6th 2013, 21st 2014

Simon Dyson 250/1 – ToteSport

Record at Wentworth: two Top 5s in the last four years

Simon Khan 500/1 with Bet Fred
